    Texas court program puts military veterans on path of rehabilitation
    Every third Thursday of the month at the Tarrant County Courthouse in Texas, Judge Chuck Vanover dedicates his courtroom to a criminal docket of a special class of defendants: military veterans. While reoffending rates in the area can be as high as 40%, the veterans court's recidivism rate is less than 10%. CBS News' Omar Villafranca reports.

    Justice Involved Veteran finds freedom through Veteran Treatment Court
    A justice involved veteran in the El Paso area, Mr. Llamas, was found in violation of his probation, jailed and facing losing his freedom as well as his family. Then, members of the El Paso County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) approached Llamas. They spoke with a down-and-out Llamas about participating in the program.

    Gov. Abbott announces over $6.9 million in grants to Gulf Coast-area veteran organizations
    Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday that 31 Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants totaling over $6.9 million were awarded to 26 Gulf Coast-area veteran service organizations as part of the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Big Check Tour, according to a release.

    INSIGHT: Downtown Austin Community Court Selected as Criminal Justice Mental Health Learning Site
    The City of Austin's Downtown Austin Community Court (DACC) has been selected as one of ten communities to be an inaugural partner for the Criminal Justice Mental Health Learning Site Program (Program). The U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)'s Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program recently launched this Program to help improve outcomes for people with behavioral health needs in the criminal justice system. The Program is built around sharing best practices and successful strategies to ensure that advancements made by these learning sites can be replicated and scaled across the country.
